Move for Matthew - Mental Health Month

By Liam Fox

I'm fundraising to support Lifeline

Last October, my brother Matthew died by suicide.

In the days that followed, I went to Melbourne to pack up his apartment. When I walked into his study, I saw a bookshelf filled with personal development books - books about understanding yourself, becoming happier, improving yourself and trying to find your place in the world.

That has stayed with me ever since.

It reminded me that sometimes people can be trying their absolute hardest, searching for answers and doing everything they think they're supposed to do, while still carrying something the people around them can't see.

This October, for Mental Health Month, I want to use my business and our community at Vision Personal Training Lindfield to raise awareness, start conversations and support Lifeline.

As part of the month, on Thursday 22 October, I'll be completing 63km across the machines in our studio - using the Ski-erg, rower, bike, treadmill and whatever else gets me there.

The 63km represents the 63 Australians who lose their lives to suicide every week.

Throughout October, our studio will also be holding events focused on bringing people together, having conversations and reminding each other of the importance of staying connected.

There's absolutely no expectation to donate. If you can contribute, every dollar will go towards supporting Lifeline and the work they do. But checking in on someone you care about, sharing this page or starting a conversation you might not normally have matters too.

If this encourages even one person to speak up, or one person to check in on someone they love, it will have meant something.

This one's for Matthew.
