There's more to say after R U OK

By Tahlia Murphy

Hi Everyone,
Suicide prevention has always been close to my heart but loosing my sister to suicide has really made me want to spread awareness and help end the stigma around mental health even more.
I want to host a picnic for friends, family, kids, partner's ANYONE to just remind one another that no matter how hard it gets there are people that care.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44.
* For every death by suicide, it is estimated that as many as 30 people attempt to end their lives
* That is approximately 65,300 suicide attempts each Year.
By inspiring people to take the time to ask "Are you OK?" and listen, we can help people struggling with life to feel connected long before they even think about suicide.
I am asking for donations because every dollar you give helps Lifeline be there for people when they really need to speak to someone. No one should have to face their darkest moments alone.
There are so many people that sit in silence and deal with their battles by themselves and if we are more open and honest to the people that are around us. It then encourages other people to open up about how they are feeling because you never know if someone’s story or someone's advice on how something might’ve helped them could help YOU!
I’d rather listen to the stuff your going through then to sit there listening to your eulogy
I will be providing some blankets for us to all sit on and a couple of food platters on the day, cupcakes, fruit etc
But if anyone would like to bring a plate of food to help that would be great or there is a fish and chip shop by the boat ramp.
I hope to see you all there.

Michaela

Michaela was not only my little sister, she was my best friend. I used to call her my diamond my because she shined so bright like a diamond and she was my rock!

Micheala had that special spark she was type of girl who would light up the room when she walked in. She was the type of soul who would always ask how your sleep was? or would let you know that you did a great job of something even over the smallest thing. Michaela just wanted to make you feel appreciated. She always put on a brave face and hid her pain from most people with her beautiful smile and loving soul. If you met her you never would of thought she was struggling with her own mental health. She put other's needs before her own.

Losing someone to suicide throws your entire life into turmoil. That realisation that someone you loved so deeply felt so much pain that they felt that the world would be better off without them or that they couldn't see past their pain is something I can't describe in words.
My heart is broken and a piece of me went with her when she passed and I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone else. so PLEASE donate and help me spread awareness. You could be saving a life.
