Puzzling Times - 5000 Pieces in a Day

The popularity of jigsaw puzzles has increased dramatically over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, with lockdown boredom leading a lot of us to try our hands at one. The necessary measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 has also impacted on our mental health, employment and social interactions, with many of us experiencing stress, confusion and anger as a result. These bizarre circumstances can contribute or exacerbate long-term mental illness including anxiety, depression, PTSD and substance misuse. 

Lifeline calls have consistently been at a higher rate than 2019 levels, though suicide rates in 2020 were at a similar rate to 2019 which is reassuring that mental health services are helping with suicide prevention. 

In 2020, there were over 1 million calls to Lifeline - 1 in 5 calls went unanswered. This statistic shows that many people are missing out on help during a crisis. 

So this is why I'm fundraising for Lifeline by challenging myself to put together 5000 jigsaw pieces in one day, across 10x 500pc puzzles. I have gotten into speed puzzling during lockdown and am keen to see how long it takes me - I'm estimating about 12-14 hours. I am planning to post updates regularly on the day with the completed puzzles, and will post a timelapse of the whole day after overall completion!
