Breaking the Stigma Around Mental Health and Mental Health While Traveling!!

Join Me in Breaking the Stigma Around Mental Health

As someone who has struggled with mental health from a young age, I understand how important it is to talk about these issues. Mental health matters, and it's okay not to be okay. Depression is real, anxiety can be crippling and everyone is dealing with things they don’t speak about.

Let’s break the stigma and realize that mental health is real. Many people are silently battling every day. It’s time to speak up and support each other.

To raise awareness and fundraise for this crucial cause, I will be skydiving over the Great Barrier Reef on my 26th birthday. This act is a symbol of overcoming challenges and showing that you can push through even the toughest battles.

Despite what might seem like a perfect life—filled with travel and adventure—I face mental health challenges every day. My journey has taught me that you can do anything you set your mind to, and it’s vital not to let mental health struggles win.

Traveling can bring some of the best memories but can also be incredibly challenging for those with mental health conditions..

We think that the point of holidays/travel is to feel relaxed, happy and carefree but in reality it makes complete sense that this might instead trigger low mood. Sometimes you feel worse purely because you think you’re supposed to feel great, and then you feel bad about feeling bad. But put it into perspective, holidays and travelling often mean:

  • Stepping out of your comfort zone – all of a sudden you’re somewhere that you don’t know, away from your trusty sofa and favourite mug.
  • Lack of routine – people totally underestimate the importance of a routine for good mental health.
  • Lack of distractions – solo traveling gives you a lot of time on your own at and gives you a lot of time to think about things, your mind is going to wander and it doesn’t always go to the best places.
  • Lack of personal space – some people travel alone, but sometime when travelling you can be around people 24/7 in hostels ect. and that can be overwhelming if you’re used to being able to take yourself away for some much needed alone time.
  • Stressful journies – getting to the airport 2 hours before your flight, finding your gate, being on a hot plane, navigating through a foreign city to your hotel… the list goes on!

the challenges of constant travel and uncertainty can significantly affect mental health. The lack of stability, regular work, and a permanent home can lead to stress and anxiety. It's important to find ways to cope with these challenges, such as establishing routines, seeking support, and taking time for self-care.

My advice is go and have the trip of a lifetime, full of food, drink and new experiences but don’t worry if you feel overwhelmed or anxious. And just because you have a few bad days it doesn’t mean you can’t turn it around and enjoy the experience too.

Remember, it's okay to experience anxiety or stress while traveling. Recognize your feelings, be kind to yourself, and don't hesitate to seek help if you need it. Your mental health is important, and taking steps to manage it while traveling can lead to a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

Here are some tips for managing mental health while traveling:

  1. Don’t Beat Yourself Up: It’s okay if you don’t feel great all the time. Travel can disrupt routines, and lack of familiar support can be stressful.
  2. Do What Makes You Feel Better: Listen to your needs. If you need to take a break and relax instead of sightseeing, that’s perfectly fine.
  3. Remember Perfect Holidays Don’t Exist: Social media often shows a highlight reel of perfect moments. It’s normal to have ups and downs during your travels.

Availability of mental health resources, such as counseling and support groups, can be accessed even while traveling!

My Updates

I’m committed to making a lasting impact!!

As I prepare to take on a second skydive, my mission to make a difference continues with renewed energy and purpose. Sometimes, it’s the small actions that have the most profound impact. By taking on this challenge, I aim to raise awareness and inspire others, showing that courage and kindness can indeed make a significant difference.

A simple smile or a kind word can brighten someone’s day, especially when they’re facing challenges that aren't visible to the outside world. This reminder that we can all contribute to making life a little better for those around us—no matter how small the gesture—shouldn't be overlooked.

Having a positive mindset and believing in the possibilities with a bit of self-confidence can be contagious. Encouraging others to keep pushing forward, to find joy in the small things, and to embrace self-belief is a powerful message. It’s not just about surviving; it’s about thriving, finding purpose, and celebrating the journey, even when it’s tough.

By facing my own fears and undertaking this skydive, I am not only challenging myself but also demonstrating that with bravery, kindness, and a positive outlook, we can achieve extraordinary things. Your support is a testament to this belief, and it’s proving that self-belief and willingness to take risks can lead to amazing outcomes.

Skydiving in the breathtaking location of Airlie Beach while raising mental health awareness is a remarkable endeavor. It contrasts sharply with the often idealized version of travel portrayed on social media. Traveling, while exciting, can also bring feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and other mental health challenges that are not always visible.

And even though I’ve paused my travels and settled in the beautiful Airlie Beach, the challenges of living abroad—both mental and physical—persist. Working demanding jobs, even in an idyllic setting, can lead to long hours, physical exhaustion, and mental strain. Being away from familiar surroundings and loved ones can add to these difficulties. It’s important to recognize that mental health struggles don’t disappear simply because one has found a more stable situation.

My continued fundraising efforts emphasize that mental health is an ongoing journey. It’s not confined to travel or a specific location but is a universal challenge. By sharing our experiences and remaining active in advocacy, we’re helping to break down stigma and remind others that it’s okay to struggle, no matter where or who you are.

Sharing our stories and using our experiences to fundraise for mental health awareness helps break down stigma and provides support to those who might be struggling in silence. Your involvement in this cause is crucial in inspiring others to seek help, speak openly about their experiences, and understand that they are not alone.

Mental health is integral to our well-being, whether we are traveling, living abroad, or managing everyday life. By staying vocal and engaged in advocacy, we are making a significant impact, not just for ourselves but for others who might be navigating similar challenges.

My journey is not just about personal growth but about sharing the wisdom gained along the way and encouraging others to persevere through their own challenges. The message I aim to convey is clear: despite the difficulties and self-doubt that may arise, it is crucial to keep believing in yourself and remain dedicated to your dreams. Even when life feels overwhelmingly dark, the possibility of finding light and hope is real. By continuing to push forward, we demonstrate that it’s possible to discover that light and keep moving towards a brighter future.

It's a significant issue that many people today are struggling with mental health challenges, which often prevent them from living life to the fullest.

Young people and mental health is on the rise preventing young people from living life to their fullest..

Fear and crippling anxiety can be overwhelming and can severely impact their ability to engage with the world and pursue their goals.

Despite my life appearing full of travel and adventure, I still face these silent battles every day. As someone who has suffered from mental health challenges from a young age, I understand how fear, anxiety, and depression can take a toll. It's very easy to get in your own head and doubt yourself. It's easy to feel stuck and stay in the same place because stepping out of your comfort zone is uncomfortable.

But living in fear means you stop living your life.

Together, we can make a change. Thank you for your support. ❤️
